The challenge
TVNZ needed a reliable and engaging system to power the NZ version of Have You Been Paying Attention?, integrating multiple technical components for a smooth production. The system had to:
- Support contestant buzzers that trigger animations, play sound effects, and disable other buzzers in real-time.
- Synchronize LED panels and screen displays with animations for seamless visual effects.
- Allow the production team to configure contestant names and game modes easily using an interface during filming.
The solution also needed to work reliably in a live studio environment, connecting a web-based interface on a studio laptop to a centralized game engine running on a computer in the podium. The buttons, LED panels, and displays all needed to be wired into this core system for flawless performance during recordings.
The Sniper solution
We collaborated closely with set designers to build a fully integrated electronic system for the show. Using a game engine and a network of connected devices, we created a seamless experience for contestants, hosts, and the production team.
What we did
Custom game configuration
Built a web interface accessible from a studio laptop to configure contestant names, game modes, and settings.
Contestant interaction system
Wired buzzers to trigger animations, disable other buzzers, and play studio-integrated audio clips.
Screen and LED integration
Developed synchronised LED panels and screen displays that light up with the contestant animations.
Centralized game engine
Installed a computer running a custom game engine to manage the buzzers, screens, and animations.
